Therapy in NoDa, Charlotte, NC

A gallery crawl is winding down on North Davidson Street. Somebody’s band is loading out of a venue,
the breweries are loud, and the murals look almost alive under the streetlights. NoDa runs on creative
energy, and you are part of it, which is why it can be disorienting when the energy runs out, when the thing
that usually fuels you feels far away, and you cannot quite explain why.

Creative communities carry a particular set of weights. NoDa is Charlotte’s arts district, built on the bones
of an old mill village and now home to a younger, largely renting crowd of artists, makers, and people
early in their careers, drawn to its identity and its walkability. With that, life comes financial uncertainty,
irregular work, comparison, and the pressure to keep producing, conditions that can quietly feed anxiety
and depression, even when you are surrounded by people.

We are a short drive south from NoDa, with the 36th Street light rail station and the roads into the center
city making the trip to 4108 Park Road near the Park Road Shopping Center straightforward. When that is
not realistic, we meet by video instead. Finding a therapist in NoDa who respects how you live and work
should not mean giving up your way of life, and it does not have to.

Therapy in NoDa, Charlotte

Built around your particular map

John Burns, LCSW, founded Montgomery Counseling Group on a principle from psychiatrist Milton
Erickson, that every person’s map of the world is as unique as a thumbprint. No two people understand the
same experience the same way. For people who spend their lives resisting the formulaic, that respect for
individuality matters. We do not apply a template. We pay attention to you.

For connection and cost flexibility, ask about group therapy and telehealth across North Carolina.

When the work is also your livelihood

For a lot of creative people, the fear is that examining the hard stuff will somehow drain the art. In our
experience, it is closer to the opposite. Understanding your own patterns tends to free up energy rather than
spend it.

Frequently asked questions

I am a freelancer with a tight, irregular budget. Can therapy still work?

It can. Self-pay is $150 for a 60-minute session, and a sliding scale is available. We will talk openly about
what is sustainable for you.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. We are in-network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Magellan, Medicare, and United Healthcare,
plus out-of-network benefits.

My schedule is all over the place. Can sessions be flexible?

We work with non-traditional schedules and offer telehealth statewide, so sessions can fit around your
work.

What if I have tried therapy before and it did not help?

That is worth talking about. A different approach, one actually shaped around you, can change the
experience. A free consultation is a low-stakes place to start.
